Java History

James Gosling, Mike Sheridan, and Patrick Naughton initiated the Java language project in June 1991. James Gosling is also called Father of Java.

Java was originally designed for interactive television, but currently Java is used in web programming, games development, mobile programming etc.

The language was initially called Oak after an oak tree that stood outside Gosling's office. Later the project went by the name Green and was finally renamed Java in 1995, from Java coffee.

Java is an island of Indonesia where first coffee was produced (called java coffee).

First public implementation of Java 1.0 was released in 1995 by Sun Microsystems.
